Choosing Will Be for a Better Reading Experience

My cursor hovered over a dozen different typefaces, all promising to be ‘the one’ for the new recipe ebook I was designing. The mood board was filled with clean kitchens, simple ingredients, and a sense of calm. I needed a font that wasn’t just a label; it was an invitation. That’s when I found Will Be. Its name alone felt like a promise, and its first impression was a breath of quiet air in a crowded digital space. I set it as the title for the introductory chapter, and immediately, the page settled. The clutter in my mind, mirrored by the cluttered layout on screen, seemed to organize itself around those clean, geometric shapes.

The Quiet Character of Will Be

Will Be is not a font that shouts. It speaks in a clear, measured tone. Its modern, minimalist sans-serif construction is built on a foundation of perfect balance. Each character feels deliberate, with geometric shapes refined to avoid coldness. There’s a sophisticated rhythm to it, a visual cadence that guides the eye effortlessly from letter to letter, word to word. The mood it creates is one of confident calm—ideal for publications that want to feel premium and approachable, intelligent and serene. This is its core editorial appeal: it establishes authority without intimidation.

In practice, this character makes Will Be incredibly versatile for content creators. I found myself using it beyond the main title. It became the perfect choice for section headings within the ebook, like “Essential Tools” or “Weeknight Dinners.” Its clarity held up beautifully at smaller sizes, and the generous spacing between letters prevented any sense of crowding, even in my dense instructional sidebars.

Building Hierarchy and Holding Attention

Good editorial design is a silent guide, and typography is its primary tool. When readers open a lifestyle blog, a digital magazine, or a printable planner, their eyes need clear pathways. Will Be excels at creating this visual hierarchy. Its strong, clean forms command attention where you need it most, making it a superb choice for the primary focal points of any layout.

For my project, this meant:

While Will Be is predominantly a display font—best suited for headlines, titles, and short bursts of text—its lighter weights can work beautifully for subtitles or captions in shorter formats. For longer body copy in a novel or lengthy article, you’d typically pair it with a highly readable serif or a neutral sans-serif for optimal reading comfort.

A Real Fit for Editorial Projects

Let’s move beyond my recipe book. Imagine a wedding guide PDF. The cover title set in Will Be immediately conveys elegance and modern simplicity. Inside, it could style the chapter openers (“The Ceremony,” “The Reception”) and the elegant pull quotes from the couple. For a coaching workbook or a course PDF, Will Be fonts establish a professional, clean framework that feels structured yet open, helping students focus on the content, not the clutter. In a digital magazine layout or a premium newsletter, using Will Be for the feature article titles creates a consistent, refined brand identity that readers begin to recognize and trust.

Readability Across Mediums

A crucial test for any font is how it performs everywhere your audience will be. Will Be’s clean lines and open forms translate exceptionally well to screen reading, maintaining legibility on mobile layouts where space is constrained. In PDF exports for ebooks or digital downloads, the characters remain crisp and sharp. Should you venture into print—for a high-end booklet or a physical planner—Will Be’s strong, geometric foundations ensure it holds its integrity beautifully on paper, a testament to its thoughtful design.

Practical Pairings and Considerations

No font lives in isolation, especially in editorial design. The magic often happens in the pairing. Will Be, as a distinctive sans-serif, plays wonderfully with contrasting companions. For body copy in a long-form article or an ebook, I would pair it with a classic, readable serif font for a warm, traditional contrast. Alternatively, for a fully modern aesthetic, a clean, neutral sans-serif for body text lets Will Be shine as the star on titles and headings. For captions, notes, or UI elements in a digital publication, a simple, functional sans-serif would complement it without competing.

Before committing any font to a project, especially for commercial use in templates, client publications, or digital products, it’ Such an investigation is part of responsible design. You’ll want to check that Will Be includes the styles and weights you need (light, regular, bold, etc.), along with any special alternates or ligatures that add flair. Confirm its multilingual support if your audience is global. Understand the file formats provided (OTF, TTF, WOFF2 for web) and, most importantly, review the commercial font licensing to ensure it covers your intended use, be it for paid newsletters, printables for sale, or embedded in course materials.

In the end, my recipe ebook found its voice. Will Be provided more than just letterforms; it established an environment. It framed the content with a sense of intention and calm, making the recipes feel more like an inviting guide than a mere list of instructions. That is the power of thoughtful typography. It’s not about decoration; it’ s about creating a space where your words can live comfortably and your readers can engage deeply. In a world of visual noise, a font like Will Be offers a moment of clarity, a promise of order, and a better, more beautiful reading experience.
